New Jersey bans dismissing nursing moms
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has approved changes in state law providing additional protection for working nursing mothers.
The document provides for amendments to the law on civil law of the state and prohibits employers to dismiss or discriminate employees for the reason that they are breastfeeding, writes Courier Post Online.
Employers should also provide breaks and a lonely place for mothers if they need to pump milk.
Christie signed this law in the last days of his governorship; on January 16, Democrat Phil Murphy will be the head of the state of New Jersey.
Nursing mothers praised the new bill, noting that it establishes equality for employees.
Less than 25% of American mothers are able to breastfeed their baby during the first 6 months of their lives, as pediatricians recommend, because they need to return to work, and employers do not welcome such processes during working hours.
Therefore, doctors also supported the new law of New Jersey.
