In New Jersey, more than 100 immigrants were arrested during a raid
Dozens of people were arrested last week in New Jersey as part of a five-day federal immigration check.
Federal officials claim that among the 105 people taken into custody were those who were wanted by Interpol for alleged crimes in their home countries, writes NY Daily News.
The raid was also directed against people who returned to the United States after the deportation, and several alleged members of gangs.
The check was carried out by immigration and customs authorities in sixteen of the twenty-one counties of New Jersey.
The raid began the day after State Attorney General Gurbir Greval announced new guidelines that restrict law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
On Friday, a statement announcing the arrests, immigration officials said the operation was scheduled before Greval issued its directive.
Those arrested will be brought before an immigration court for a decision on possible deportation.
