Hamas members have been arrested in several EU countries: they are accused of preparing terrorist attacks

Seven people, including four alleged Hamas members, were arrested in Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands on suspicion of planning attacks on Jewish institutions in Europe, authorities in the three countries said. The publication shared the details Reuters.

The arrests come as Israel continues its campaign to destroy Hamas in the Gaza Strip, a war that began on October 7 after a cross-border attack by Palestinian Islamist militants on Israeli cities.

Three of the suspects were detained in Berlin, and another in the Netherlands. All four are long-time members with close ties to the leadership of Hamas's military branch, German prosecutors said in a statement.

An Islamic Resistance Movement official denies that the detainees are affiliated with the group.

Three people arrested in Denmark will be charged under terrorism offenses in the criminal code and will appear before a judge for preliminary questioning, police said. It is unclear whether there is a connection between the arrests in Denmark and those in Germany and the Netherlands.

Dutch citizen Nazih R. was arrested by police in Rotterdam, while Lebanese natives Abdelhamid Al A. and Ibrahim El R., as well as Egyptian citizen Mohamed B. were arrested in the German capital.

Prosecutors say Abdelhamid Al A. was tasked by Hamas leaders in Lebanon to find sources of weapons. The weapons were then to be transported to Berlin and stored in readiness for possible terrorist attacks against Jewish institutions, prosecutors said.

“Recently, following the horrific attacks by Hamas on the Israeli population, attacks on Jews in Jewish institutions have become more frequent in our country. Therefore, we must do everything possible so that Jews in our country no longer fear for their safety,” urged German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann.

Islamic Resistance Movement spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said: “We deny that Hamas members are detained in Denmark, Germany or any other European country. The publication of these accusations is aimed at influencing mass rallies in support of Palestine in Europe.”

Dutch police say they arrested a 14-year-old man in Rotterdam on Thursday, December 57, at the request of German authorities as part of a Danish-German investigation.

Israel's intelligence service, Mossad, said Denmark had exposed "Hamas infrastructure on European soil."

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is convinced: “Of course, with regard to Israel and Gaza, it is completely unacceptable for anyone to bring into Danish society a conflict that is happening in other countries of the world.”

Danish police say the raids were the result of an investigation carried out in close cooperation with foreign partners, during which they identified a network of people preparing a terrorist attack.

The police say they will increase their public presence in the coming days, particularly in Copenhagen and in Jewish communities. The Danish Jewish community said it was informed of the raids but had no information about any actual threats to Jewish sites.
