A museum worth $ 160 million stolen by 30 years ago was returned to the Arizona Museum.

Willem de Kooning's Woman of Ocher, stolen more than 160 years ago, was returned to the Museum of Art at the University of Arizona, worth $ 30 million. ABC News.

“If this painting could talk, it would tell a great story,” said Police Chief Brian Seastone.

The FBI has already despaired of finding a stolen masterpiece. The picture was taken out of the museum for Thanksgiving in 1985 year. Then there were no video cameras in the halls. Witnesses said that they had seen a man and a woman, who for some time stood near Woman ocherwithout causing any suspicion. Then the couple left, and the picture disappeared with her. The masterpiece of de Kooning did not emerge anywhere after that. It was not offered to purchase stolen buyers, private collectors, did not put up for auction.

An investigation was conducted. Police chief Brian Sistone, who oversaw him, found that the woman had distracted the guard’s attention while the man cut the picture out of the frame with a sharp razor. Apparently, then he quickly folded the canvas into a roll, which he hid under his coat.

Now the police believe that the picture was stolen by Jerry and Rita Alter. Their nephew, a resident of Houston, Texas, Ron Roseman actually returned the painting to the museum. After the death of aunt and uncle Ron inherited their house.

Sorting out old things, Roseman accidentally stumbled upon, as he put it, “some sort of daub” that hung on the bathroom door. Ron took the picture and offered it to a local antiquary. He bargained and agreed to buy it for 2 thousands of dollars.

Then the picture came to the exhibition, and visitors noted the similarity of the picture with the famous masterpiece. The experts conducted a test and confirmed the authenticity of the canvas.
