In Missouri, a prison nurse poisoned a husband to marry a prisoner

Last week, a Missouri prison nurse was arrested on murder charges.

Police have charged a Missouri prison nurse with murder after she poisoned her husband and tried to cover it up by setting her house on fire. All this was done in order to marry a prisoner.

Amy Murray was arrested last Thursday in connection with the death of her husband Joshua Murray in December 2018. The probable causes of his death are antifreeze poisoning and arson.

According to a police statement, the nurse set fire to her bedroom with her husband and left with her 11-year-old son and dogs for McDonald's. Murray later stated that she saw the fire in the house only when she returned. According to her, the smoke was too caustic to enter inside, so she allegedly did not try to save her husband.

Police determined that the fire was the result of deliberate arson, and autopsy results showed that Joshua Murray died before the fire started.

Miller County Sheriff Louis Gregoire said they initially did not believe the suspect's story.

“Everything looked suspicious,” Gregoire said. “Basically, we were delayed in making the arrest because we were waiting for the autopsy report.”

After investigating the incident, police discovered that Amy Murray, a nurse at a correctional center in Jefferson City, Missouri, had an intimate relationship with an inmate she planned to marry, according to recorded phone conversations between lovers.

“During phone calls, Amy Murray talks about how she doesn't want to be with her husband, Joshua Murray, and wants to divorce him. Amy Murray talks about Joshua Murray's desire to come home from Nebraska, but, according to her, she is tired of being around him,” police revealed details of the correspondence.

In one of the conversations, she also mentioned that they could get married now because her husband had died, the statement said.

A Missouri prison nurse was arrested on Thursday, February 7, and charged with poisoning her husband.

The Miller County Sheriff's Office charged Amy Murray with first-degree murder, second-degree arson, evidence tampering, and armed criminal act. She was released after posting $750 bail and is due in court on Feb. 000.
