The Ministry of Defense of Russia said that the vaccine against COVID-19 is already ready: the Ministry of Health does not agree

The Russian Ministry of Defense said the Russian coronavirus vaccine is ready, but the country's Ministry of Health claims that the tests are still ongoing. Writes about it with the BBC.

First Deputy Defense Minister Ruslan Tsalikov said that the Russian vaccine against coronavirus, developed by the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, is ready.

“The final assessments of the test results by our specialists and scientists from the National Research Center have already been made. At the time of discharge, all volunteers without exception, having received immunity to coronavirus, felt normal. Thus, the first domestic vaccine against the new coronavirus infection is ready,” he said. Volunteers who tested the vaccine were discharged from hospitals on July 15 and 20.

The development of a vaccine against COVID-19 is funded by the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). The head of the fund, Kirill Dmitriev, said that mass production of the vaccine is planned to begin in August. “We expect approval from regulators in the Russian Federation in August and immediately after that we plan to begin mass production,” he said.

Earlier, Dmitriev reported that the second phase of testing the vaccine will end on August 3, and the third will take place not only in Russia, but also in other countries, including the Middle East.

The Ministry of Health stated that trials are ongoing - the vaccine is still in the final stages of clinical trials.

“The second phase of clinical trials of the vaccine developed by the Research Center of Microbiology and Epidemiology named after. N.F. Gamaleya of the Russian Ministry of Health continues and is at the final stage,” said Assistant Minister of Health Alexey Kuznetsov.
