Strange law: a resident of Minnesota must pay $ 20 thousand due to a small leak in the aqueduct

In Minneapolis (Minnesota), the owner of the house found a small water leak from the aqueduct and now has to pay $ 20 000 to the city for repairing pipes on almost all its streets.

Dan Wilke said that while working in the yard six weeks ago, he noticed water flowing on his lawn. He immediately reported this to the city authorities. The man suggested that he would have to pay for the repair of part of the water supply "from the valve to his house." But it turned out that the main part of the water supply system is on the other side of the street, from where the water disperses in four pipes.

And now, because of a city decree 27-year-old, Wilke must pay to replace all the lead elements of the aqueduct. This work is estimated at approximately $ 20 000.

“The bids valued the work at $17 to $000,” Wilke said.

"It's a little shocking, to say the least," he added.

Although the main water line does not leak, there is another part of it, which means that Wilke is responsible for “repairing everything under the main road,” he said.

Currently, Wilke is lobbying for an amendment to the decree almost 30-year-old by city officials. He points out that any landlord who lives along main roads "can get an 20 000 dollar bill for one small leak in their water line."

“I would really like to see Minneapolis take responsibility for what is on their property,” Wilke said.
