In the subway in New York will introduce preferential rates for the poor
The City of New York intends to introduce reduced MetroCard tariffs for low-income residents of the city. This rule is spelled out in the preliminary draft budget for 2019 year, writes Curbed new york.
The program of preferential tariffs proposed Community Service Society and the Riders Alliance, provides for the allocation of $ 24 339 for a family of 4 people of working age living below the poverty line who are eligible to receive MetroCards.
“Access to subways and buses is an important economic component for New Yorkers who rely on transit to get to work, school, and the doctor. A city that continues to face staggering income disparities cannot be America's greatest city when hundreds of thousands of our residents cannot afford to ride the bus or subway.
Earlier, MTA Chairman Joe Lhota announced that an increase in transport tariffs would be inevitable in 2019, so the program Metrocard becomes more relevant than ever.
