A New York City subway driver saved an 12-year-old boy who was wandering the rails
4 April in the metro in Brooklyn was saved 12-year-old boy, who suddenly found himself on the rails. The driver stopped the train on time and carefully brought the child out of the danger zone.
Hopeton Kiffin, who was driving the Manhattan-bound Line 5 train, noticed a passenger on the platform frantically waving his arms. The driver understood him correctly and stopped the train. There was a child on the tracks - the boy was standing between the rails, writes CBS New York.
Kiffin came out of the cabin and tried to talk with the child.
“First, I tried to establish verbal communication with him, but he did not respond the way I would like,” says the driver.
“So I just tried holding him with my forearm to see if it would work. When I did, he came with me,” Kiffin said.
The driver took the child to the next station, where the police were already waiting. According to him, life experience and his own fatherhood helped him to remain calm, especially when he led the child past the third rail, to which a powerful electric current was let down.
“It was important to make sure he was safe, to keep him from making contact with the third rail,” Kiffin added. “So I had to take control of the situation and handle it very carefully.”
Passengers call Kyffina a hero and describe his actions with admiration.
“Hero... many would be shocked at such a moment. To think so quickly and save him is incredible,” said one of the passengers.
Under the message of Kiffin’s deed, one of Twitter followers wrote:
“Thank you, Hopeton Kiffin, from my mom's autistic boy, whom I could see doing the same thing.” Thank you for your humanity and kindness. ”
Journalists talked to the boy’s mother, who said that he was fine. The woman thanked everyone who helped to take the child to a safe place.
