In Miami, the YWCA Day Care Center is being tested after the death of two children who allegedly died from a single infection, meningitis. He writes about it NBC Miami.

Dr. Alvaro Megia, a medical epidemiologist at the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County, said that the 22 month-old boy who died on December 3 and the 2 year old boy who died on December 12, 10, YWCA, located on 112 NW 3rd Street in Miami.

The death of the first child was provoked by pneumococcal meningitis. The cause of death of the second child has not yet been determined.

Alvaro Megia said that studies are being actively conducted to determine whether the deaths were caused by the same microorganism. Results should be ready by Friday, December 15.

Jose Galan, a spokesman for Miami-Dade County, said the YWCA Day Care Center voluntarily closed its operations for now to allow the deaths to be thoroughly investigated. It will remain closed until officials are confident the facility meets all epidemiological standards.

Parents of children who have symptoms of meningitis, he asked for immediate help.

“Symptoms of meningitis include fever, severe headache, drowsiness or lethargy, nausea and vomiting. These bacteria are spread from person to person through sneezing and coughing and direct contact with the saliva, sputum or nasal mucus of infected people, a Florida Department of Health spokesperson wrote in a letter. “The most effective way to prevent this disease is to wash your hands thoroughly and often, use good respiratory hygiene, and not share food or utensils.”
