In Los Angeles, Airbnb will charge a tax
Airbnb has come to the decision to levy taxes on those who rent housing in Los Angeles through a rental service.
Money collected as taxes will be transferred to the city, as is the case in San Francisco and other 200 cities around the world. The law will take effect in August.
Airbnb confirmed this agreement with the city authorities of Los Angeles. John Choi, public affairs manager in Los Angeles, said the company is pleased to be of service to the city.
As of June, Airbnb has taxed landlords in 190 cities around the world. The company has already paid over $ 85 million in taxes to these cities.
Previously ForumDaily писалthat, according to Los Angeles authorities, the city loses approximately $ 41 million annually.
Of course, Airbnb's cooperation with the Los Angeles authorities does not yet solve the problem that short-term rentals (less than 30 days) are illegal in the city. Given this, the city authorities are currently considering a new bill that would legalize and settle the short-term lease.
Fortune notes that the Airbnb deal with the Los Angeles authorities can still be changed or canceled. After the entry into force of the law for three years.
Although Airbnb levies taxes on landlords in many major cities, such as San Francisco and Paris, the company still cannot reach similar tax treaties in Austin and New York.
