In Colorado for the first time in 90 in June snow fell. PHOTO, VIDEO
On the day of the summer solstice, snow fell in Colorado - in some areas the depth of the snow cover exceeded half a meter.
On Friday, June 21, snow markers at the Steamboat resort showed that during the day almost 20 inches (50 cm) of snow fell in an area that is at an altitude of about 6900 feet (more than 2 km) above sea level, writes Fox News.
The resort in Steamboat Springs, located about 155 miles (250 km) northwest of Denver, called the strange weather phenomenon "summer snow."

Warnings of snowy weather acted until Sunday morning, June 23, but by that time the resort had become much warmer and the sun had melted snowdrifts.
According to the forecasts of the National Meteorological Service, this week the city is expected to have a maximum of 82 degrees Fahrenheit (27,7 Celsius).
"The Voice" star Kelly Clarkson tweeted that she was in the Colorado mountains with her family - and seemed to be enjoying the snow, too.
“Yes, that’s snow in my hand,” she wrote. — Snowballs in June. I love Colorado!
As noted by CNN, snow was also reported in some areas of Montana. Meteorologist Gene Norman says even in this area of the country, snowfall in June is rare - the last time snow fell in the summer was June 17, 1928.

But it seems that everyone is delighted on Twitter.
“Snow in Breckenridge, Colorado!” wrote user Jennifer Thompson.
“Only in Colorado does it snow on the first day of summer,” one person wrote, referring to the astronomical summer.
“Good morning June 22nd and it just snowed in Colorado,” wrote another.

Steamboat Springs averages 0,1 inch of snow in June, Norman said, and May 6 is usually the last day of snowfall during a typical season. This strange snowfall happened in part because the atmosphere became warmer and wetter than before. Most regions are too warm at ground level to support snowfall, but mountainous areas do not have this problem.
