Magnitude 4,2 earthquake hits California, followed by strong aftershocks
A magnitude 4,2 earthquake, followed by a strong jolt, rocked Southern California in the early hours of January 25, reports KTLA.
There were no reports of damage or injury.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 2 am in the coastal zone, 16 km south of Malibu Beach and west of Los Angeles, at a depth of 14 km.

The quake was followed by aftershocks of magnitude 3,5 at 2:03 a.m. and gradually weaker aftershocks at 2:22 a.m. and 2:38 a.m.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the quake prompted the Los Angeles Fire Department to enter an earthquake response mode that included a strategic survey of all major "problem areas."

“LAFD has completed a strategic survey of the city of Los Angeles following a 4,2 magnitude earthquake near Malibu. No damage or injury was reported and normal operations have resumed,” the LAFD said at 2:45 a.m.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration did not issue a tsunami warning.
Hundreds of earthquakes are recorded in California every year. Most of them are extremely minor.
According to the California Department of Conservation, the strongest earthquake ever recorded in California had a magnitude of 7,9 and struck Fort Tejon on January 9, 1857.
