In California, scammers stole $ 3,1 million from the Medicare program
A Southern California resident pleaded guilty on April 3 to filing false Medicare enrollment forms. The scammers then submitted over $3,1 million in improper claims to Medicare, reports US Department of Justice.

According to court documents, Karen Sarkisian, also known as Kevin Sarkisian, 44, from Glendale, submitted false Medicare registration forms for San Gabriel Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., listing a shell owner as the sole owner and manager, without identifying the actual beneficial owners and managers . The scammers presented Medicare with false claims totaling approximately $3, of which $668 were paid out after Sarkisian filed false enrollment applications.
Sargsyan pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States. His sentencing is scheduled for September 11, and he faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison. A federal district court judge will issue a verdict after considering all statutory factors.

Accomplice Gaik Akhsharumov previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud and is due to be sentenced on August 14. A third accomplice has been charged for his role in the scheme but is still a fugitive.
The FBI field office in Los Angeles and HHS-OIG are investigating the case.
