In California, a 13-year-old girl steals her mother's car and knocks down two people to death
Two men were killed in an accident after a 13-year-old girl took her mother's car without permission and tried to escape from Escondido, California police. Writes about it FOX5.
According to Escondido Police Lieutenant Kevin Toth, the accident occurred on Friday at 23:20 pm on Mission Avenue and Ash Street. A police officer stopped a car near Mission Avenue and Gamble Street for a traffic violation.
“What the officer didn’t know at the time was that the car was being driven by a 13-year-old girl from Vista who had taken her mom’s car without her knowledge. The girl’s young friend was a passenger,” Toth said.
According to him, the girls left when the officer approached. They were driving east on the Mission and were apparently trying to turn left onto Ash.
“They apparently lost control and their vehicle went into a hedge on the east side of the road near the SDG&E transfer station,” Toth said.

According to him, when the police caught up with the girls and detained them, they found that the car hit two men who were sleeping in the bushes and were homeless. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other died in hospital. They have not yet been identified.
Frames from the neighbor's Ring camera recorded the moment of the accident, specifies FOX5.
“The car was just speeding right here,” said neighbor Ivan Calderon. “I’m not sure they were trying to turn and they lost control and just went straight towards the wall.”
“What were they thinking? - asked Calderon. “We read in the report that they came from Vista.” It's quite a distance to drive if you're 13 years old. I don’t believe you can drive at this age.”
Former police officer Kevin LaChapelle said it was unlikely that teenagers would be charged as adults under California law.
“At 14 years old, a juvenile can be charged as an adult,” LaChapelle said. - But she is 13 years old. Another thing you look at is intent. For example, who could have known that two men were sleeping in the bushes when it happened? On the other hand, the girl will be held accountable.”

LaChapelle believes that her parents may be responsible.
“There has to be some kind of justice,” Calderon said. “The homeless, maybe they don’t have a family... But I think they deserve justice too.”
Police also had to face another crash when a DUI driver hit a patrol car that was blocking the road during an investigation. The officers took this driver into custody.
Police said the girls were arrested and released to their parents.
