US airports with the longest queues, you need to arrive there 3 hours before the flight

Traveling to the airport is often a difficult task. Between the long security lines and the crowds at the terminal, it's important to give yourself enough time to get to the boarding gate. In a 2022 study, travel experts at Upgraded Points analyzed 15 factors at 50 major U.S. airports to find the ones where it is most important for passengers to arrive early. The study took into account the following factors:

• the number of aircraft;
• number of passengers;
• airport size;
• average waiting time TSA;
• number of terminals;
• number of gates;
• the number of airport employees;
• the number of airport lounges;
• number of restaurants/bars;
• the number of stores;
• number of parking spaces/floors;
• percentage of shipments on time;
• percentage of delayed shipments;
• volume of car traffic;
• traffic index.

The study found that the airports where passengers need the most time before landing are Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

An airport where passengers don't have to arrive so early is John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) in Columbus, Ohio.

• Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD): 3 hours 4 minutes to departure
• Los Angeles International Airport (LAX): 2 hours 59 minutes
• John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK): 2 hours 58 minutes
• George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH): 2 hours 55 minutes
• Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW): 2 hours 50 minutes
• Miami International Airport (MIA): 2 hours 48 minutes
• San Francisco International Airport (SFO): 2 hours 45 minutes
• Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT): 2 hours 45 minutes
• Philadelphia International Airport (PHL): 2 hours 44 minutes
• Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR): 2 hours 41 minutes
• Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA): 2 hours 39 minutes
• Orlando International Airport (MCO): 2 hours 36 minutes
• Boston Logan International Airport (BOS): 2 hours 33 minutes
• Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL): 2 hours 31 minutes
• Denver International Airport (DEN): 2 hours 30 minutes

An Upgrade Points study showed that when departing from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD), passengers need to arrive 3 hours and 4 minutes in advance in order to seamlessly board.

In 2021, the airport recorded 54 passengers. ORD has 020 gates, more than any other airport included in the study. However, the airport is understaffed, with 399 airport employees per square mile, 193% below the national average.

The next two airports nearly tied for second and third place: LAX and JFK. According to the rating, passengers should arrive at the Los Angeles airport 2 hours 59 minutes before the scheduled departure. With more than eight terminals, 146 gates and a huge number of vehicles outside the airport, it's no wonder people are taking extra time to get to their designated locations.

JFK came in third with passengers due to arrive 2 hours 58 minutes before scheduled departure. The average waiting time for a security check at New York Airport is 16,40 minutes, and it had over 2021 million passengers in 30.
