Advice for IS supporters on working on social networks was found on the Internet.
Islamic State activists are calling on their supporters to monitor trending hashtags on social media and “monitor false reports in the media.” This, as Vocativ has learned, is stated in the new set of recommendations.
The voluminous propaganda work collected on the 10 printed pages provides a rare opportunity to learn something about the strategy of a terrorist organization in social networks.
“Oh, our brother, supporter of the Islamic State.” Your tweets are weapons. Thousands of Muslims on Twitter are waiting for you, says the set of rules. “Don’t worry about increasing your number of followers, focus on what you write.”
IS followers are encouraged to use not only the organization’s hashtags, but also others that are popular on social networks and trending. Among other things, it is recommended to duplicate pro-Western hashtags so that user posts are visible to people looking for news.
It should be noted that the document was created not by the official propaganda wing of the Islamic State, but by activists of the organization. After Twitter blocked the account of a terrorist group, the activities of such activists become of key importance for IS.
These recommendations, discovered by Vocativ on an online forum, come just months after an internal State Department memo was leaked claiming that IS was outperforming technologically advanced countries in information warfare on social media, as reported by The New York Times. The note noted that the US, UK and UAE have not yet created a centralized strategy to counter the Islamic State on social networks.
In addition, the IS document, which is published in Arabic and English, recommends monitoring Western media materials, “bringing them to light” and translating articles for the organization’s supporters. The guide also advises supporters to take precautions and ensure that their electronic devices are secure and cannot be hacked.
In October, the Islamic State announced "holy war" between Russia and the USAwho bombed the positions of terrorists in Syria. Before that, gunmen threatened destroy Israel.
ISIS, which Forbes called the richest terrorist group, controls large areas of Iraq and Syria, where oil fields are located. Militants receive money from the sale of oil and gas about xnumx thousand dollars a day, but no one knows exactly how much money the militants have.
