In Illinois, a patient with a dropper in hand was arrested for stealing medical equipment. VIDEO
A man from Illinois is outraged by the actions of the police who arrested him during a walk on the hospital grounds. The patient went out to walk, being connected to a portable dropper and taking medicine from it. Police accused him of stealing medical equipment.
24-year-old Shaquille Dukes was arrested after a security guard summoned police, writes CNN. On Sunday, June 30, the Freeport Police Department confirmed that Dukes had filed a complaint "alleging unfair and biased conduct by responding officers." The man believes that they actually picked on him because of his race - Dukes is black, and white police officers detained him.
Dux wrote in his Facebook account that he was on vacation in Freeport (not far from Chicago) when he fell ill with bilateral nevmoniyu and was taken to hospital. A man spent two days at FHN Memorial Hospital.
On the morning of the second day, June 9, he felt better. Dyuks asked the doctors if he could go for a walk. He went out with his brother and friend, still in a hospital gown and with a drip, which had anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics.

When they went outside, the guard called them to his car and asked if they were trying to "leave the hospital and sell the equipment for intravenous infusion of drugs on eBay."
“I was furious, I was angry,” Dukes said. “He didn’t ask my name or if he could help me, but immediately asked: “Did you steal this?”
Dukes' escort began recording the conflict on video while Dukes himself tried to explain that they were just hanging out. That's when the security guard called the police, telling officers, "I have three black men trying to steal medical equipment from the hospital."

The police arrested all three and filed charges. According to a Freeport police press release released on June 17, two men were charged with the crime of detention.
Dyuks told CNN that before the arrest, an emergency inhaler was taken from him, and his IV was removed, although none of them was a doctor. The police said that the man was disconnected from the dropper by the hospital staff.

According to him, Dyuks suffered an asthma attack while he was being taken to the police station. He was not given an inhaler before arriving at the site, holding the man in the back of the car. Then he was returned to the hospital, but in handcuffs.
The police department has appointed an independent investigator to review the case: Mitch Davis, a black former police chief in Hazel Crest.
Dyuks believes that the incident should lead to additional training for both the police and hospital staff. The medical institution declined to comment.
