In Illinois, an Xnumx-year-old boy set fire to a house where Xnumx suffocated

An 9-year-old Illinois boy will be charged with killing five people who died in a fire. Three young children and two adults became victims.

A minor child whose name is not named was charged with five murders, two arsons and one aggravated arson, said Woodford County Attorney Greg Minger in an interview with Peoria Journal Star, writes Fox News.

The boy set fire on April 6 in a mobile home near Goodfield, southeast of Peoria. 69-year-old Catherine Murray, 34-year-old Jason Wall, 2-year-old Rose Alwood and Damon Wall, one-year-old Ariel Wall were killed during the fire.

The fire started around 11 hours of the evening. By the time the firefighters arrived a few minutes later, the house was on fire. An autopsy showed that all the people in the house died as a result of inhalation of smoke, the newspaper writes.

27-year-old Katrina Alwood and her minor son survived. The newspaper reported that she and Jason Wall were engaged. They were the parents of Ariel and Damon. Little Rose was their niece. Murray was the grandmother of Katrina Alwood.

Minger said he decided to indict the boy after repeatedly reading various fire reports from reputable sources.

“It was a tough decision,” he said. “It’s tragic but at the end of the day a very young man is accused of one of the most serious crimes you can commit.” I just think it needs to be done for now, for the final point.”

Minger said the boy will appear before the judge without a jury.

If convicted, the child faces a five-year probationary period. By law, any probationary period for a minor must not last longer than his 21 anniversary.

Imprisonment is not considered.

“Probation, given age, is the only possible outcome,” the prosecutor told the newspaper.
