Mother's Day is celebrated in Georgia

Georgia on Tuesday, 3 March, celebrates Mother's Day, this day in the country is a holiday.

The history of the holiday is connected with the name of the first president of Georgia, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, who in 1991 passed it to parliament for approval. The new holiday was supposed to replace the International Women's Day 8 of March, since 8 of March, on the initiative of Gamsakhurdia, was then canceled. Under the presidency of Eduard Shevardnadze, 8 March was returned to holiday status. Thus, both 3 and 8 are celebrated in March in Georgia.
