In connection with the budget cuts, the US State Department liquidates the rate of the special commissioner for combating anti-Semitism and its subordinate department. This post was created in 2004 by decree of President George W. Bush.

According to News.RuAt a round-table discussion held by the anti-defamation league, Hanna Rosenthal and Ira Forman, who held a position in the administration of Barack Obama, called on Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to reconsider this decision.

According to them, the abolition of the post of special commissioner will undermine the efforts of the United States to resist anti-Semitism - just when hatred of Jews is becoming more common.

“The Secretary of State says incidents of anti-Semitism will continue to be monitored. But who will do this? In addition, it is not enough to monitor - anti-Semitism must be fought irreconcilably,” says Rosenthal.

Foreman believes that this is a huge step back - after all, the US has become an example for other states that have created similar departments. He recalled that the government was fighting for the right of Jews to be circumcised and to kosher butchering.

According to him, special attention should be paid to Eastern Europe, where Nazi collaborationists are honored, as well as to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, both sides of which accuse each other of anti-Semitism and desecration of Jewish monuments.
