How will delivery with robots work?
Company Ford summed up a pilot project on using self-managed food delivery machines to random customers Domino's Pizza in USA. The company found that most buyers thanked the car for the delivery of food, writes MIT Technology Review.
“Probably, we should add communication with customers in this part, it's cool. It's human, ”said the executive vice president. Ford Jim Farley.
To pick up the pizza, people needed to enter a four-digit code on the car's panel. The test results showed that it is more comfortable for customers to use the last digits of their phone number as opposed to a bank card as a verification code.
Also, the company's researchers found that in the summer, many customers went barefoot to pick up food, so now Ford Carefully choose places to park the car.
The collected data of the company is enough to improve and create a fully automatic machine for the delivery of food and things.
During the project with Domino's Pizza the driver was sitting in the test car, and the delivery was filmed by an operator who was driving behind the car. In March, 2018, the company plans to launch similar testing with the delivery service Postmates.
