Protesters erect barricades in Yerevan

In the center of Yerevan, participants in a protest action against the decision of the authorities to raise electricity tariffs barricaded themselves from the police with large street litter bins.

“We are creating our own security line. We are not aggressive. Our only task is to ensure the safety of the sit-in rally,” protest participant Ishkhan Khosrovyan told reporters.

Meanwhile, police called on demonstrators to remove the ballot boxes from the central square.

“You must take out the ballot boxes, since it is prohibited by law to place them here,” Yerevan Deputy Police Chief Colonel Valery Osipyan said through a loudspeaker.

He also noted that the police are not going to take any action “as long as the assembly is peaceful”.

“But in your ranks there are provocateurs who are armed with stones and other objects. We ask you to eliminate them, otherwise the coordination group will bear all responsibility,” Osipyan said.

The protest rally organized by the civil movement "No robbery!". This movement consists mainly of representatives of young people who are not associated with any political or social forces.
In the evening, on Monday, the rally participants marched towards the building of the residence of the Armenian President on Baghramyan Avenue. There their way was blocked by the police, and at dawn dThe demonstration was dispersed with water cannons.

A protest against the authorities' decision to increase electricity tariffs is also taking place in Gyumri, the second largest city in northern Armenia.

According to the report, several hundred people gathered in the central Theater Square of the city in support of a large-scale protest rally in Yerevan.
