In the capital of Armenia, protests several times turned into clashes with police
Several hundred people gathered on Khorenatsi Street in support of the opposition movement “Founding Parliament”, which seized the police building in Yerevan on July 17.
Activists tried several times to break through the police cordon, threw stones and bottles at policemen and threatened them with violence. To disperse the protesters, the police use stun grenades and tear gas.

The protesters are demanding that opposition policemen, but opposition MP Nikol Pashinyan, deliver the food to the oppositionists, reports the Armenian service of Radio Liberty.
In addition, a group of people began to build barricades of benches, garbage containers on Tegran Mets Avenue, adjacent to the scene. All adjacent streets are closed.
Representatives of the clergy and Nikol Pashinyan arrived at the scene, who are trying to call people to calm.
“We must renounce violence and bloodshed,” the clergyman urged people.
On July 17, a group of activists from the opposition “Founding Parliament” took police officers hostage, demanding the release of a participant in the Karabakh conflict, the leader of the radical opposition Public Salvation Front “New Armenia” Zhirayr Sefilyan. He was arrested on June 20, 2016, on charges of illegal possession of weapons and preparation for an armed coup.
In an armed attack on a police building in the Yerevan district of Erebuni, one police officer was killed, four others were injured.
