In Egypt, a shark killed a tourist from Russia in front of his father and dozens of vacationers

According to Russian media reports, a tiger shark killed a Russian who swam on an Egyptian beach filled with people. Everything happened in front of his father and dozens of vacationers in the coastal zone. The edition told in more detail New York Post.

On the video of the incident a huge splash and commotion in the water is captured as a man is dragged under the water, and terrified vacationers scream for help.

“Now she is eating his remains,” one of the witnesses who filmed the incident can be heard saying.

The Egyptian Ministry of the Environment said on Facebook that a tiger shark was responsible for the death of a man near the Elysees Dream Beach Hotel in the popular Egyptian resort city of Hurghada.

Russian Consul General in Hurghada Viktor Voropaev said that the victim is a 23-year-old Russian V. Popov. He is not a tourist, but has been living in Egypt for several months.

Later it turned out that his name was Vladimir Popov.

It is reported that Popova's girlfriend managed to get out of the water unharmed.

Eyewitnesses claimed that Popova tried to help, but to no avail.

“It happened in a second. The rescuers responded very quickly. For some reason I immediately knew it was a shark. I immediately jumped up and started shouting: “Shark, shark! Save yourself!” said the witness.

"It's horrible. I'm shaking. Right in front of my eyes, the shark ate the guy. I think I need a drink. I feel very bad, ”admitted one of the vacationers.

Authorities say the shark was captured and taken to a lab "for research and to obtain all necessary information in order to determine the possible causes of the attack."

Water activities in the area were limited until June 11th.

Shark attacks are rare in coastal areas of the Red Sea, although there were two attacks in Hurghada just a few days apart last year that killed an Austrian and a Romanian tourist.

According to National Geographic, tiger sharks are second to great whites in the number of attacks on humans.

“But because they are bad at distinguishing taste, they are unlikely to swim away after biting a person, as great whites often do,” the publication notes.
