Georgia to count votes again in presidential elections: this is the third time

Trump's staff and his allies have launched a continuous stream of attacks on election integrity in the states he lost, including Georgia, where laws and voting procedures were passed and regulated by other Republicans.

In a statement announcing the recount, Trump's headquarters demanded that it include matching of absentee signatures, despite repeated explanations from Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger's office that such a request was illegal and impossible.

“Let's stop giving people false results,” the Trump campaign said. “The time has come for us to stop counting illegal ballots.”

There is no evidence that illegal ballots were counted in Georgia.

President-elect Joe Biden's headquarters spokeswoman said the recount for the third time should show he won 16 state electoral votes.

“As the Secretary of State has said, there is no reason to believe there is widespread error or fraud, and the Trump campaign has no evidence to support their unsubstantiated claims,” Jacqueline Rothenberg said in a statement. “In terms of signature matching, both sides were aware of the rules set in place months before the election and all signatures had already been matched.”

Raffensperger, the state's top election official, said last week that November's elections were one of the smoothest in recent history and that the audit, conducted in less than a week, should provide additional confidence in their outcome, even if he personally wanted to. for Trump to win.

“I said half the country would be happy and half would be sad about these results,” Raffensperger said. “And I, as a Republican, am also disappointed, but these are the results, this is the will of the voters of Georgia.”

The recount process is expected to take several days, with Fulton County officials in Atlanta working an eight-hour shift of five to nine days using multiple scanners.

Machine recalculation is unlikely to change the results. It is also more accurate than a manual check of the vote count, which confirmed Biden's victory over Trump and came within 0,10% of the original ballots tally.
