In the Dominican Republic tortured and killed an American teacher
In the Dominican Republic, the body of an American was discovered. The woman was found to be gagged: authorities believe that she was tortured and killed during a burglary, but this theory is doubtful, since the doors were not opened.
63-year-old Patricia Ann Anton, who worked as a teacher on the island, was found dead in her home in the province of Puerto Plata on Tuesday morning, November 12, with her arms and legs tied. Authorities believe that she died from strangulation, writes New York Post.
Authorities found the teacher’s body on her bed with a gagged mouth and said there were signs that a woman from Michigan had been tortured, Dominican National Police spokesman Frank Felix Duran told local media.
There was no mobile phone, laptop and plasma TV, and there were signs that the cabinets were ransacked, which led the police to believe that the woman was killed during the robbery.

But there was no sign of violent penetration, so it was assumed that Anton was killed by those or those whom she knew.
Anthon, born in Italy, was the director of the curriculum at Mariposas Montessori Elementary School in Cabarete, one of the poorest communities in the Dominican Republic, according to its LinkedIn. She worked there for 6 years and was previously a primary school teacher in Traverse City, Michigan.
Her relatives said that the woman was an experienced traveler who took care of the Dominicans, and the parents of her students also mourn the deceased.
“Patty was one of those teachers our daughter would rush to hug, and who always treated children as if they were her own,” Demetra Roussafow Dharma wrote in a Dominican Today article announcing her death.
“It’s painful and sad to know that her life was senselessly ended in such a cruel way,” the man adds.
Wisconsin resident Adriana Machina said that Anton was a loving mother, teacher, friend, and a "role model for many."
“She loved the Dominican Republic - both the place and the people. She had a heart of gold and could help anyone, but was also an experienced traveler who was always aware of her surroundings.”

As the New York Post, a week after the tragedy, Dominican Republic authorities detained 8 people on suspicion of the murder of Anton.
Among those in custody is an apartment maintenance technician in a residential complex that Anton moved to just two days before she was found dead. The federal police are working with an employee of a residential complex that has been identified as a foreigner living on the island since 1982 of the year. They also look at recordings from surveillance cameras near the building where Anton lived.
