A man with a weapon burst into a children's camp in Texas: thanks to the prompt response of the police, he did not manage to kill anyone

On June 13, police shot dead a man who opened fire with his weapon into a room where children were kept at a summer camp near Dallas, according to authorities. CNN.

Police arrived at Duncanville Fieldhouse, a large indoor facility, about two minutes after receiving an emergency call, the Duncanville Police Department said in a statement. Duncanville is located about 16 miles south of downtown Dallas.

“Officers quickly located and used weapons on the suspect, who was armed with a pistol. The suspect was wounded during the shootout," the agency said. The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said, and no children, staff or officers were injured in the incident. The identity of the attacker has not been released by police.

An armed man entered "through the main lobby doors with a gun" after which at least one shot was fired, Duncanville Police Assistant Chief Matthew Stogner said at a June 13 news conference.

“An altercation with an employee at the entrance caused the shooting to start,” which alerted others in the building, Stogner said. According to him, the leaders immediately began to move the children to a safe place and lock the doors.

“The suspect entered the school, couldn’t get in and shot at the classroom where the children were,” Stogner said.

According to police, the suspect then moved to the gym, where there were other children, but no shots were fired. Officers arrived at the scene and saw the suspect at the gym, and a gunfight ensued, police said.
“Camp staff followed isolation procedures. Thanks to the sober actions of personnel and the quick response of law enforcement agencies, there were no additional injuries or casualties, police said. “Duncanville Police officers have completed their training and are being commended by the City today for their actions.”

The summer camp is for children aged 4 to 14 and has started its second week with an average attendance of over 250 campers and staff, police said.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has been asked to take over the investigation, Duncanville police said. The motive for the shooting has not yet been established.
