In Chicago, a 10-year-old boy had a shootout with the police: he was arrested

On July 24, a 10-year-old boy from Chicago found a gun in his home and shot at the police, reports New York Post.

The little shooter was taken into custody and taken to the hospital for evaluation after an incident in the Windy City's Beverly area.

Police officers arrived at a house at 9800 block South Charles Street around 11:20 am on July 24th regarding a report of a child with a nervous breakdown.

When the police arrived at the house, they found the boy standing on the porch. The child pointed a gun at them.

The police fired on the house, forcing the boy to retreat inside, where he allegedly fired four shots.

The boy later returned to the street and allegedly shot at the police. The child was also reported to have pointed a loaded firearm at himself several times during the tense confrontation.

Police said that due to the shooter's age and apparently weak mental state, officers used rubber bullets and pepper spray to incapacitate him.

“He's a child. And that's what we were thinking about when we discussed the next step - so definitely his age and the condition that he's in is very important to this incident,” Chicago Police Deputy Chief Migdalia Bulnes said.

During the incident, none of the police officers were injured, the area was blocked.

The gun legally belonged to someone who lived in the house, but the weapon was not securely hidden.

“We have what I would call a happy ending, but people just need to be more careful when you have guns at home,” a police spokesman said.

Police are investigating how a 10-year-old child was able to access a gun.
