In the center of illegal immigration in Texas, the fifth child died in six months
20, an 16-year-old teenager from Guatemala died in a detention center for illegal immigrants in Texas in May. His death was the fifth in six months: during this time four more children, ranging in age from 2,5 to 16, died in custody.
On May 13, the teenager, whose name was Carlos Gregorio Hernandez Vazquez, was detained in a group of more than 70 people. The boy was in Border Patrol custody for a week, more than twice as long as the law allows, he writes. Washington Times.
As the newspaper notes, the death of a minor illegal immigrant raised the stakes on border security in Congress, where lawmakers are trying to decide whether to give US President Donald Trump a portion of 4,5 billion dollars in the form of urgent funding he requires to solve the surge in migration.

19 may have a boy diagnosed with the flu. On the same day, he was prescribed an antiviral drug, Tamiflu. On the morning of May 20, the child was found without signs of life. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
Disease is a particularly serious threat in detention centers where illegal immigrants are detained—these centers are overcrowded as immigrant families with children rapidly move north.
A government official said that the authorities tried to transfer the teenager to the federal health and welfare department, as required by law, but an equally overcrowded service could not quickly provide a place for a child in one of their shelters.

Trump also responded to this news, accusing the Democrats of attracting an influx of vulnerable people into the country.

- 7-year-old Jakelin Kaal Makin died from a bacterial infection in a border patrol prison in December;
- 8-year-old Felipe Gomez Alonzo died of flu on Christmas Eve;
- 16-year-old Juan de Leon Gutierrez 30 passed away on April custody of the Department of Health and Human Services;
- On May 14, an unknown baby, aged two and a half, died while in custody, after several weeks in a hospital, according to Washington Post;
- According to the border patrol, most often at the border are detained unaccompanied children following from Guatemala. Although gang violence is considered one of the key reasons for the emigration of Guatemalans, in September the patrol said that drought and fungal infections of local coffee cultures contribute to the migration of indigenous families from the western regions of the country.
