Cocaine found in the White House: part of the building even had to be evacuated

An "unknown" substance has been found in the White House. Firefighters later confirmed it was cocaine. Insider.

The discovery, reportedly made while President Joe Biden was at Camp David, led to the temporary evacuation of parts of the compound.

"On the evening of July 2, the White House complex was closed as a precaution as intelligence officers examined an unknown item found in a work area," a secret service spokesman told Reuters.

The material was found in the West Wing - in the part of the White House that is connected to the mansion where the president lives.

A firefighter from the Washington, D.C. Hazardous Materials Team, said test results for the substance showed a "yellow band that says cocaine hydrochloride."

The revelation comes just over a week after some of the most influential people in technology and business arrived at the White House for a state dinner in honor of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The guest list included Apple and Google CEOs, Citigroup CEO Jane Frazier, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, designer Ralph Lauren and one of Rupert Murdoch's sons.
