In 2017, several dozen American cities and states are raising the minimum wage. Let us remind you that the federal minimum is $7.25 per hour. Employers do not have the right to pay their employees less. However, in many states the minimum level is much higher.

Of all the states, Arizona saw the biggest jump, from $8,05 to $10 an hour. The rate in Maine has been increased by approximately the same amount - in 2016 the minimum wage was $7.50 per hour, in 2017 the rate rises to $9. And in Washington state - from $9,47 to $11 per hour.

At the city and county level, the largest increases are in California. San Mateo, Los Altos and Cupertino are raising the bar from $10 to $12 per hour. Pay is even higher in Mountain View (Google's headquarters) and Sunnyvale (Yahoo's headquarters), where the minimum wage increases from $11 to $13.

At the same time, as noted by the Huffington Post, the federal minimum has not changed since 2009 of the year.
