In the year 2015, the United States recorded a record number of sexually transmitted diseases compared to all previous years.

This is evidenced by the results of the study STD Surveillance Report.

The three most common sexually transmitted diseases in the United States are chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, and the prevalence rates of all three in 2015 have increased significantly.

There were 2015% more cases of primary and secondary syphilis in 19 than in 2014. The incidence rate of gonorrhea increased by 12,8%, chlamydia - 5,9%.

All these 3 diseases can be cured with antibiotics, but researchers note that in most cases patients do not seek help, so they do not receive the necessary treatment on time.

Who is at risk

Most of those who were diagnosed with gonorrhea or chlamydia in 2015 were in the age from 15 to 24. The total number of cases of chlamydia that can cause infertility in women in 2015 was about 1,5 a million cases. More than 395 cases of gonorrhea began to progress, which caused difficulties in treatment, the highest incidence of this disease was recorded among homosexual male couples.

One of the most disappointing discoveries of the study was the increase in the number of newborns to whom syphilis was transmitted from mom during pregnancy, their number increased by 6% and amounted to 487 cases in 2015 year.

In addition, 23 872 cases of syphilis last year were recorded, the highest incidence of the disease was also recorded among homosexual male couples.

The researchers noted that each year the country spends about $ 21 billion on the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases.
