Maryland shooter used to threaten reporters. Why no one responded

Then 38-year-old Ramos brought down a flurry of accusations and threats on Twitter. But the editors decided not to request a restraining order, so as not to complicate the situation.

The police then considered the man not to be a threat, since he did not try to enter the territory of the newspaper and did not send letters directly to the employees of the newspaper, but simply wrote posts of a general threatening nature on the social network.

“At the time of writing, Capital Gazette does not intend to file any charges. The publication called it “stirring the hive,” which they do not want to do,” Detective Michael Bradley wrote in a report in 2013.

In 2012, Ramos filed a lawsuit against the newspaper, accusing them of defamation. The publication published an article in which a man was accused of persecuting his former classmate. The judge rejected the claim in 2014 year. After that, the man often wrote angry tweets against the newspaper, accompanying them with the hashtag #CapDeathWatch.

The police said that in 2011, Ramos was involved in the case of the prosecution of his former classmate. Attorney Brennan McCarthy, who defended the victim, said Ramos’s actions were aggressive.

“This is the worst case of stalking and harassment that I have ever seen in my career,” the lawyer said.

The name of the victim is not disclosed, but it is reported that she fled from Maryland.

“I don't think she had a choice. He would have killed her. This guy was the most dangerous person I have ever encountered in my legal practice. He was smart... He knew how to act,” the lawyer recalls.

He also said that he, too, became the object of the wrath of Ramos. The man began to disturb his sister and family lawyer. McCarthy was constantly worried about his 19-year-old niece and nephews.

“It was a silent threat that just hung there. It's even worse because there is no legal mechanism to prevent what this guy could have done. The Capital understood how dangerous he was,” says the lawyer.

In 2015, Ramos wrote on Twitter that he would like the newspaper to stop publishing, but “it would be better to see how its journalists stop breathing.”

Then he stopped showing online discontent with the work of the newspaper. But soon the threats resumed.

Recall, 28 June Ramos arranged the shooting in the Capital Capital Gazette edition. As a result of his actions killed 5 people, more 20 injured.
