USCIS Redesigned Citizenship and Naturalization Certificates

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), after a successful pilot project with 4 June, began issuing certificates of citizenship and naturalization in a new design. The change in the design of eight certificates is aimed at combating fraud and protecting the information of clients, according to communication press service departments.

Certificates of naturalization, the design of which has changed:

• N-550, issued to a person who has acquired US citizenship through a naturalization process;
• N-578, issued to a naturalized US citizen for submission to the authorities of a foreign state, if necessary, to confirm his citizenship;
• N-570, issued when the initial certificate of naturalization is lost, damaged or contains errors.

Certificates of citizenship, the design of which has changed (such documents are issued to a person who received US citizenship, but not through birth in the country or naturalization):

• N-560A or N-560AB is issued to a person who has the right to American citizenship by birth (the type depends on the specific circumstances);
• N-645 or N-645A is issued to families of individuals who served in the US military for a specified period for citizenship and died as a result of injury or illness received or aggravated by this service.
• The N-561 form is issued to replace the certificate of citizenship if the original has been lost, damaged or contains errors.

On the modified certificates of citizenship and naturalization in the center there is a large image on the background of a complex pattern, which complicates the process of falsifying the information indicated on the document. Each certificate contains a unique image that is visible only under ultraviolet light, and attempts to change it will be easily noticed by a specialist.

By periodically changing the design and methods of printing these certificates, USCIS counteracts counterfeit, because fraudsters have to start the process of creating and printing fake documents again.

Despite the change in the appearance of documents, the application process for their receipt and the conditions for their issuance have not changed. Individuals who already have certificates of naturalization or citizenship do not need to update them, regardless of when they were issued. Certificates that were issued before redesign are still valid proof of citizenship.
