26-year-old Latvian tennis player Anastasia Sevastova reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career. In the 1/8 finals match US Open Championship in New York, Sevastova beat Joanna Konta from Great Britain, who was seeded 13th at the tournament.

Previously, the best achievement of the athlete was the release in the fourth round of the Australian Open in 2011.

It should be noted that after 2011, due to a series of injuries, Sevastova did not compete in Grand Slam tournaments for almost 5 years, and in May 2013 she announced the end of her professional career.
