Americans are afraid to fly on United Airlines: the company's planes get into trouble too often

United Airlines is trying to reassure passengers after a series of incidents on its Boeing planes this year. The company sends letters to its customers declaring that safety is “at the center of everything we do,” it said. CNN.

“While the incidents are unrelated, I want you to know that they have caught our attention and increased it,” United CEO Scott Kirby said in a March 19 note to customers.

United said it was adding an extra day of pilot training and "dedicating more resources to managing its supplier network."

Passengers, after seeing a series of bad headlines about the airline and its Boeing jets, are considering using other carriers.

As of the end of last year, 81% of the planes United flies were made by Boeing, while rival Delta and other U.S. airlines have just over half of its fleets.

Boeing's problems are also attracting attention

Aside from complications on United flights, the most dramatic Boeing incident this year involved an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 during a flight on January 5 he lost the door. Incidents at United may be rooted in airline personnel rather than Boeing's quality problems.

However, United's operations were disrupted by problems with Boeing. It has frozen hiring of pilots because the company will not receive as many new planes from Boeing this year as planned. The Federal Aviation Administration slowed Boeing's production and its 737 Max 9 fleet was grounded for three weeks in January after the Alaska Air incident.
