Unique sunset in New York: where and when you can see Manhattanhenge-2018
Four days a year in New York, you can watch special sunsets when the glowing disc of the setting sun aligns itself with the skyscrapers along the streets of Manhattan.
This phenomenon is known as Manhattanhenge, writes NBC.
According to Jackie Faherty, an astrophysicist from the Museum of Natural History in New York, “the good fortune is that at length Manhattan Island is located roughly from north to south, and the streets crossing it run from east to west.” The buildings are respectively built parallel to the streets, which creates a natural predisposition for the sun and the houses to line up at some point.
The first day of Manhattanhenge 2018 is today, May 29th. The special sunset will be seen around 20:13 pm ET. Other dates and times for Manhattanhenge this year: 20:12 May 30; 20:20 on July 12 and 20:21 on July 13 (Eastern time).
On May 29 and July 13, only the upper half of the solar disk will be visible between the houses, tomorrow and July 12 - the full disk of the sun.

The best places to watch Manhattanhenge are along the main streets of New York, in particular 14, 34, 57 and 79. Experts recommend heading to the easternmost part of Manhattan to observe this phenomenon.
If the streets of Manhattan were lined up perfectly to the sides of the world, then Manhattanhenge would have happened in the first days of spring and summer. But the street grid of Manhattan is rotated 30 degrees east of the geographic north, so the dates of Manhattanhenge are shifted.
"Manhattanhenge" was named by analogy with the famous Stonehenge in the UK. The stones in this famous historical monument are arranged in such a way that the sunlight creates special patterns on the days of the summer and winter solstices.
