1990s rock star, ex-singer of Smash Mouth Steve Harwell dies

The 56-year-old musician died on September 4 at his home in Boise, Idaho. He had the last stage of liver failure.

Harwell left Smash Mouth in 2021 due to health reasons. Since then, the group has been performing with another vocalist, Zach Good. Harwell had an iconic voice and “his memory will live on in the music,” said band manager Robert Hayes.

In addition, around 2013, Steve was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, which, according to the media, led to other diseases, such as heart failure and Wernicke's encephalopathy (an acute neuropsychiatric emergency that occurs against a background of thiamine deficiency).

In addition to alcohol abuse, the musician is also credited with taking psychoactive substances, which also had a devastating effect on his health.

Steve Harwell co-founded the band Smash Mouth in 1994. Californian pop-punks gained their first significant popularity when their hit “All Star” was released.
