Died director of legendary Soviet films Sergei Soloviev

At the 78th year of his life in Moscow, the director of the film "Assa" Sergei Soloviev died, reports RBC.

The director of the films "Assa", "Black Rose - the emblem of sadness, the red rose - the emblem of love" and "One Hundred Days After Childhood" was 77 years old.

VGIK confirmed that Soloviev died of a heart attack.

In January 2020, Soloviev was hospitalized.

He was diagnosed with infiltration of the lower extremities and underwent surgery.

Sergey Soloviev was born on August 25, 1944 in the city of Kem of the Karelo-Finnish SSR in the family of a scout, head of the SMERSH department of the Karelian front.

When his father became an advisor to the DPRK leader Kim Il Sung, they moved to Pyongyang.
Since 1947, the family has lived in St. Petersburg.

During his school years he played at the Leningrad Bolshoi Drama Theater. Gorky.
From 1960 to 1962 he worked in television.

He was married twice.

After Soloviev graduated from the directing department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in 1969, for 18 years he worked at the Mosfilm film studio.

He wrote scripts for feature films and documentaries and in 1969 made his debut with the short stories "From Nothing to Do" and "The Proposal" in the film almanac "Family Happiness" based on the stories of Anton Chekhov.

Later, his first full-length film "Yegor Bulychev and Others" based on the play by Maxim Gorky, as well as "The Station Keeper" based on the story by Alexander Pushkin, which received "Pri-Italy" at the Venice Television Film Festival in 1972, was released.

For the film "One Hundred Days After Childhood" Solovyov was awarded the Silver Bear Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival.

And his film "Alien White and Pockmarked" was awarded a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival.

One of the director's most famous works was the 1987 film Assa from the Three Songs about the Motherland trilogy.

Among his other paintings: "Black Rose - the emblem of sadness, red rose - the emblem of love", "House under the starry sky", "Three sisters", "Tender age", "About love", "2-Assa-2", " Anna Karenina "(2009).

Sergei Soloviev staged the play "Uncle Vanya" at the Maly Theater and "The Seagull" at the "Commonwealth of Taganka Actors".

From 1987 to 1995, he produced programs about Russian cinema on the Rossiya TV channel. Since 2010, he has hosted the author's program "Those with whom I ..." on the "Culture" channel.

Over the years, Soloviev was the chairman of the unions of cinematographers in Moscow, Russia, the CIS and Baltic countries.
From 1996 to 1998, he headed the Commission on Cinematography of the Commission on Culture under the President.

He was a member of the jury of international festivals, and was also a member of the National Academy of Cinematic Arts and Sciences of Russia.
