The children's writer who created Cheburashka with Gena and Prostokvashino died
A Soviet and Russian writer, author of children's books about Prostokvashino, Crocodile Gena and Cheburashka Edward Uspensky, died in Moscow at the age of 80.
The writer died at home in New Moscow. Before that, he suffered seriously from cancer for a long time, writes “Snob«.
Ouspensky was born in the Moscow region in 1937 year. He graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute in engineering and earned writing children's books, poems and scripts for cartoons.
Ouspensky's first book about the adventures of Uncle Fedor's boy Uncle Fedor, the Dog and the Cat was published in 1974 year. After that, three popular cartoons were filmed on it: “Three from Prostokvashino”, “Vacations in Prostokvashino” and “Winter in Prostokvashino”. Writer's works translated into more than 25 languages.
Eduard Uspensky was one of the creators of the children's TV programs "Good night, kids!"
From 2007 to 2008, Ouspensky was a member of the High Council of the Civil Force political party.
In 2010, he received an award for children's writers named after Korney Chukovsky in the main nomination "For outstanding creative achievements in Russian children's literature."
In recent years, Ouspensky clashed with the Soyuzmultfilm studio, accusing her of copyright infringement.
