Former Israeli President Shimon Peres died - a man of big dreams

“If your dreams are greater than your achievements, then you are still young. If it’s the other way around, you’re old,” this is how Shimon Peres concluded his speech made a couple of years ago. Following his own formula, the 93-year-old Israeli patriarch left very young.

On the night of September 27-28, former Israeli President Shimon Peres died at the age of 93, surrounded by his family. He was admitted to Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer on September 13 with a suspected mini-stroke. Soon his condition deteriorated sharply, after which the patient was put into an artificial coma and connected to a ventilator. Doctors diagnosed extensive hemorrhage in the brain and blockage of heart vessels.

A few days after hospitalization, Perez's condition improved slightly, but in the evening of September 27 experienced a sharp deterioration. And around 5 in the morning of September 28 it was announced that he was dead. Peres will be buried on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem alongside the great figures of the State of Israel. The date and time of the funeral will be announced later.

It is noted that Perez will become a donor of the cornea, and they will receive patients in need of transplantation. Family policy agreed to donor transplantation.

Shimon Peres, born Persky, was born on August 2 1923 in the town of Vishnevo of the Volozhin povet of the Novogrudok voivodeship of Poland (now the village of Vishnevo of the Volozhinsky district of the Minsk region in Belarus). His father, Itzhak Persky, was a lumber buyer, the mother of Sarah Perskaya (nee Melzer) served as a librarian and teacher of the Russian language.

In the 1931 year, Perez Sr. moved to Eretz Yisrael, the rest of the family (Sarah, along with Shimon and his younger brother Gershon) arrived in Palestine in the 1934 year.

During the War of Independence, Peres served as Assistant Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, then served as Chief of the Israeli Mission to the US Department of Defense.

In the 1952 year, Peres became the deputy general director of the Ministry of Defense, and in 1953, he became the general director of this ministry.

In this post, Peres established military relations with France and began to actively supply Israeli industry with military orders, thereby creating a military-industrial complex (in particular the Taasiya Avirit Aircraft Industrial Concern).

It was Peres who initiated the creation of the Israeli nuclear project: he made the greatest contribution to the construction of nuclear reactors in Dimona and Sorek.

Shimon Peres held ministerial positions in Israel’s 12 ministries: he was Israeli Minister of Defense twice (1974 — 1977 and 1995 — 1996), 3 was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel (1986 — 1988, 1992 — 1995 and 2001 — 2002), Minister of Internal Affairs (1984), Minister of Finance of Israel (1988-1990), Israeli Minister of communications (1970-1974), the Minister of transport Israel (1970-1974), Minister of Immigrant absorption (1969-1970), Minister for development of the Negev and the Galilee (2005-2007) , the Minister of Regional Development of Israel (1999 — 2001), the Minister of Religious Affairs of Israel (1984), the Minister of Information Maqtion and Diaspora of Israel (1974).

The ninth and twelfth Prime Minister of Israel (1984 — 86 and 1995 — 96).

Ninth President of the State of Israel from July 2007 to July 2014. Since January 2, 2013 has been the oldest acting state leader on the planet until the end of the presidential term.

He is the author of 11 books and a large number of publications and political articles on the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Peres also has the honorary title of Knight of the Order of St. Michael and St. George, Honorary Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Honorary Citizen of Vilnius.

The most controversial achievement of Peres was negotiations with Yasir Arafat and the conclusion of the so-called Norwegian agreements (agreements in Oslo) with the Palestinian Arabs. They were signed with his participation 13 September 1993 of the year.

For these agreements, Shimon Peres in 1994, together with then Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat, received the Nobel Peace Prize.

Exactly after 23, after the signing of the Norwegian agreements, also September 13, at the age of 93 years, Shimon Peres, who until recently had been fully functional, suddenly had a cerebral hemorrhage.
