The authorities of Moldova have put on the international wanted list Ilan Shor, a well-known businessman in the republic, a deputy, and the husband of the Russian pop singer Jasmine.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs has put Shor Ilan Mironovich on the national and international wanted list. Responsibility for execution is assigned to the General Inspectorate of Police under the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” says a message posted on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova.

Deputy Shor was involved in a criminal case for fraud and in June 2017 was sentenced by a Chisinau court to 7,5 years in prison for the theft of $1 billion from three Moldovan banks that he controlled - Banca de Economia, Banca Sociale and Banca Sociale. The scandal, which has been described here as the “theft of the century,” two years earlier provoked mass protests, the fall of two governments and the collapse of the ruling coalition of pro-European parties, which had the support of the United States and the EU.

Shore appealed the verdict and until the final decision of the judges was placed under judicial control. He was forbidden to leave the territory of Moldova. While Shore was waiting for the final decision of the judges, he was able to elect the mayor of the city of Orhei, where he established a party in his own name and held it in parliament, becoming a deputy.

However, in June 2019 of the year, the deputy fled the country when politicians and businessmen in the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) left the country in a hurry to leave the country. He was put on the international wanted list just on the fact of illegal departure from Moldova.

The country's interior minister, Andrei Nastase, previously reported that he had appealed to colleagues from Ukraine with a request to provide information on the possible entry of Shor. There is a version that he could get to the territory of Ukraine through Transnistria.

The decision to put Shore on the wanted list was taken last week by the Appeal Chamber of the city of Cahul, which is considering his case. The judges granted the petition of the prosecutor Andrei Baesh and changed his preventive measure from judicial control to arrest.

Earlier, the prosecutor's office launched an investigation into the illegal crossing of the border by Shore, who, after a change of government in Moldova, left the country in June. For illegal border crossing, he faces a fine, 200 hours of community service or imprisonment for up to 2 years. In order to initiate a new criminal case against Shor, the parliament must remove his deputy immunity at the request of the Prosecutor General.

In 2015, Shor was also involved in another corruption scandal - he confessed and said that he transferred $250 million to former Prime Minister Vladimir Filat in exchange for favors for his business. Based on his testimony, Filat was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2016. For his part, the former prime minister believes that the verdict is related to the struggle for power within the ruling coalition. According to Filat, his former coalition partner, oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, was behind his arrest.
