Ukrainian and Russian taken hostage in Mali
Armed militants who attacked the Byblos Hotel in the Malian city of Sevare are holding at least ten people hostage. This was announced by the official representative of the Mali army, Colonel Suleiman Maiga.
Among the hostages there is one Russian. About this TASS reported the representative of the Russian Embassy in Bamako. According to the diplomat, he was an employee of the airline UTair.
According to Reuters, the militants are holding at least ten people. In addition to the Russians, one citizen of Ukraine was taken hostage, said the representative of the country's Foreign Ministry Mariana Betsa in her microblog on Twitter. According to RIA Novosti, the Ukrainian managed to escape from the hotel.
In the Armed Forces of Mali noted that the operation to free the hostages continues.
The attack on the Hotel Byblos occurred on Friday, 7 August. According to the Associated Press, the victims of the militants were five people, three invaders were eliminated. This hotel is staffed by staff members of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
