Olga Skabeeva, the host of the Russian political talk show “60 Minutes”, which airs on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, tried to interview members of the Ukrainian PACE delegation, but in response she heard the Ukrainian anthem.
Later, on Channel One, Skabeeva spoke about what happened: “People were sweating, their eyes were bloodshot, the words they were saying: death to the enemies, death to Russia, death to you,” writes Present Tense.
In the video, representatives of Ukraine, in response to questions from the host of a Russian TV channel, sang the Ukrainian anthem, and then chanted “Glory to Ukraine!”, “Glory to the Heroes!”, “Glory to the Nation!”, “Death to the Enemies!”, “Death of the Russian Federation!”, “ Shame on propaganda!
Skabeeva approached the singers with a microphone, heard only the Ukrainian anthem and commented on camera: “Look, these are Ukrainian deputies, pay attention, this is the modern Ukrainian government.”
“Yes, it’s just a nightmare and terrible,” commented the presenter of Channel One after Skabeeva’s report. During the video demonstration, laughter can be heard in the television studio.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe 9 October returned for revision to the relevant committee a draft resolution on changing the organization’s regulations. 99 deputies voted for this decision, 79 was against, 16 abstained. The adoption of the resolution would allow Russia to return to participate in the sessions of the organization.
In April, 2014, Russia first deprived of the right to vote, and then the main powers due to the events in Ukraine and the annexation of the Crimea.
After that, Moscow decided for a year not to participate in the assembly, and in the summer of 2017, it also stopped paying membership fees to the Council of Europe.
Now Moscow is seeking changes to the PACE regulations to eliminate such sanctions in the future.
Recall that a month ago, Ukraine announced termination of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation with Russia.
Poroshenko explained that the agreement is not broken, because it is a complicated and lengthy procedure, but ceases to be effective due to non-renewal. He stressed that this decision does not require a vote in parliament.
“Today it is solely the competence of the president of Ukraine. But, of course, I would like to hold relevant consultations on this matter in order to take into account the position and opinion of the parliament and the level of preparation of the relevant decision of the National Security Council, ”Poroshenko said.
The current Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia (the so-called “Big Treaty”) was signed in Kiev on May 31 on 1997 by Russian Presidents Boris Yeltsin and Ukraine Leonid Kuchma and ratified on 1998 in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the State Duma of Russia.
The Interfax-Ukraine news agency reminds that the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation was signed on May 31 of 1997 for a period of 10 years (with the subsequent automatic prolongation of the document, if the parties do not speak against).
