Ukrainian woman made a unique discovery in mathematics, solving the problem of centuries

34-year-old mathematician Marina Vyazovskaya from Kyiv made a unique mathematical breakthrough - together with her team, the woman made a sensation in the world of science.

Vyazovskaya solved a mathematical equation that indicates how an infinite number of points that repel each other are placed in 8 and 24-dimensional spaces, writes Shotam. Scientists all over the world struggled to solve it for 400 years, and it took Marina 2 of the year.

As the Womo with reference to the publication of Quanta Magazine, this became known in March, after the publication of scientific articles. The mathematician studied the space of dimensions 8 and 24 (the latter in collaboration with other mathematicians).

This problem has been studied since 1611. Johannes Kepler, a German mathematician, suggested that the ideal arrangement of balls in space is a pyramidal ordering. This is how we see the laying of oranges and other rounded vegetables or fruits in stores. It would seem nothing complicated, but the solution appeared only in the 1998 year, thanks to the American Thomas Hales, who proved the Kepler hypothesis for three dimensions using mathematical arguments with complex machine calculations.

Ukrainian Maria Vyazovskaya published a scientific article in which the missing function was determined for a space of dimension 8. A week later, another scientific work appeared in collaboration with Peter Sarnac, Henry Cohn and three other mathematicians, in which he talked about the Lich lattice. Prior to this, Vyazovskaya worked on this problem with two Ukrainian mathematicians - Andrei Bondarenko and Daniil Radchenko.

As reported Facts, Marina Vyazovskaya graduated from the Kiev Natural Science Lyceum No. 145 and the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In 2010, she defended her thesis at the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the subject “Inequalities for polynomials and rational functions and quadrature formulas on a sphere”, and in 2013 she received a doctorate in natural sciences from the University of Bonn, defending her thesis “Modular Functions and Special Cycles ".

In 2016 she received one of the most prestigious mathematical awards in the world - the Salem Prize, which
annually awarded to a young mathematician for outstanding research results in the field of scientific interests of Rafael Salem, especially in the theory of Fourier series.

Now Vyazovskaya lives with her family in Berlin. Her husband is engaged in physics.
