'Deletes data': Google has issued a warning for Chrome users
Google Chrome's hassle-free updates are one of the most attractive features due to their reliability. But the latest version of Chrome is already automatically updated among hundreds of millions of users around the world and is causing serious problems for Android users. Writes about this Forbes.
The version of Chrome 79 deletes data from Android applications that access Chrome through Android’s built-in Android WebView. Users are furious, and Chromium's bug tracking system describes this as a “serious problem.”
Google confirmed the problem and suspended the update, but acknowledged that Chrome 79 is already installed on approximately 50% of devices (2,5 billion Android users in the world).
One of the Chromium engineers said: “We are currently discussing the right strategy to solve this problem.”
Also, Google asked users to “compile a list of affected packages”, which suggests that there is still some way to identify and fix all the issues raised. There is currently no official list of vulnerable applications.

“I understand that losing data puts you in a very difficult position,” admitted another Chromium engineer. — This issue is marked P0 [highest priority], so at this time we don't need any more reminders about how important this is to you. Please understand that the team is working on a solution that minimizes data loss. Thank you for your patience!"
If you are already using Chrome 79 (check the version of installing Chrome on the Play Store), you can’t do anything. Without an official list of affected applications and serious risks of data loss when accessing them, there is no obvious way to protect yourself and data from vulnerable applications.
