Teachers forced to resign because of the refusal to call a transgender named
A Indiana teacher claims that the school where he worked forced him to resign after he refused to call a transgender student by name.
In high school in Brownsburg, there is a rule that teachers call transgender students by their new name instead of their birth name.
John Kluge, who taught high school 4 for the year, disagreed with this rule and said that he would instead refer to a student by last name.
Kluge told WRTV that at school he was faced with a choice: either to follow the rules or quit.
The representative of the school district said that Kluge voluntarily resigned, and the administration accepted her.
The teacher himself called his meeting with the administration "very threatening" and "mocking."
“I love being a teacher at Brownsburg,” Kluge wrote in his application. “Unfortunately, the administration will not allow me to return and does not want to hear reasonable things that most people consider common sense.”
He continued to ask the board to review his resignation.
The administration reported that it works in accordance with all state and federal laws.
According to the rules of the Brownsburg Community School Corporation, a student can change his birth name only with a written statement from a parent and a health care professional.
“The lack of support for transgender youth is what is driving up their suicide rates in Indiana,” said Chris Paulsen, executive director of the organization. LGBTQ Youth Indiana Youth Group.
