Scientists: warm weather hurts the economy
A recent study by American economists showed that warm winters, spring and autumn, in general, have a bad effect on the country's economy and the incomes of its inhabitants. The warmer the weather, the less US citizens earn.
Scientists have come to this conclusion by a study that included about 40 years of observations of the correlation of weather and economic activity.
The days when the thermometer rose to about + 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees on Chain), the average income of residents fell by 5 dollars per day compared with the days when the weather was 20 degrees Fahrenheit is colder.
The economic productivity of the country, in general, falls by 1% per degree Fahrenheit, starting with 59 degrees (15 degrees Celsius) and above. The results of the study were published last week by the National Bureau of Economic Research.
Scientists also suggest that if winters get warmer and average temperatures grow steadily, the US economy may therefore lose tens of billions of dollars each year.
“High air temperature is very bad for the economy,” says Tatiana Deryugina, an economist at the University of Illinois and one of the authors of the study.
