According to him, the majority of Americans will independently select embryos created in the laboratory using their DNA. Thanks to the cheapening of stem cell technology, parents will be able to create eggs and sperm directly from the skin, writes Quartz.

According to scientists, this technology is the most reliable way to rid a future child of hereditary diseases, such as Huntington's disease, cancer genes, predispositions to Alzheimer's; it will be possible to choose the color of hair, eyes and even the level of mental abilities.

However, this does not mean that you can program the ideal child: you may have to choose between the level of IQ and some rare disease, or not very attractive appearance. According to Greeley, things are a little more complicated. “I don’t think that in this way we can predict that this embryo will get 1550 points on the SAT exam,” he says. - Rather, that this embryo with probability in 60% will fall into the first half of the best students or that there is a probability in 13% of its hits in the first 10%. This is quite realistic to do. ”

According to Greeley, this service may be available for different segments of the population and will allow insurance companies to save on subsequent treatment. The scientist stressed that the most likely "artificial selection" will be limited to apply to the "treatment" of infertility and some very rare diseases.
